Missing HTML lang attribute

Rule keylang_missing

Short answer

The <html> tag has no lang attribute. Google ignores it — it detects language from the text — so this is not an SEO problem. Screen readers use it to pick pronunciation and browsers use it to offer translation, so add lang="en" (or your language) to the root element.

Why it matters

Accessibility and browser behaviour, not ranking. Google's documentation on multi-regional sites says explicitly that it does not use lang. The fix is one attribute.

How Glimana detects it

The rule fires for a 200 HTML page whose <html> element has no lang.

How to fix it

Themes print <html <?php language_attributes(); ?>>; if yours does not, add it in header.php. The value follows Settings → General → Site Language.

<html lang="{{ request.locale.iso_code }}"> in theme.liquid.

Set lang from the page's language; use BCP 47 codes (en, en-GB, tr).
