Missing meta description

Rule keydescription_missing

Short answer

The page has no <meta name="description">. Google will pick a snippet from the page text. Descriptions are not a ranking factor, but when yours is relevant Google frequently uses it, and a good one earns clicks. Add a one- or two-sentence summary that answers "what will I get here".

Why it matters

The snippet under the title is the second thing searchers read. Google generates snippets from the page when the description is missing or off-topic, and uses the description when it accurately summarises the page. Writing it yourself is the only way to control that text — and it is where you can state the benefit, the number, the date.

How Glimana detects it

The rule fires for an indexable 200 page with no meta description (or an empty one).

How to fix it

Fill the Meta description field in the SEO plugin's snippet editor, or set a template that uses the excerpt (%excerpt%).

Search engine listing → Description on the resource; the home page description is under Online Store → Preferences.

Output <meta name="description" content="…"> from a per-page field; fall back to the first paragraph.

How the fix is verified

Re-crawl; the task closes when the page has a description.
